News, Smiles, and School Spirit

In your March Daler Digest, you’ll find the latest news, memorable moments, and stories that highlight the energy, talent, and spirit of our schools. With six buildings and countless activities happening every day, this publication captures only a snapshot of the great work underway throughout the district.

A Title Years in the Making

At the Farmingdale St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the sound of bagpipes was rivaled by a different kind of thunder: the celebration of the Farmingdale High School Varsity Cheer team. Draped in gold medals, the squad marched through the village to mark a redemption story years in the making.

After finishing third once and second twice over the last three seasons, the Dalers shifted their strategy. "The hardest routine, as far as difficulty and skills, was packed in to help us produce the highest scores," explained Coach Caitlin Beatrice.

The high-stakes gamble yielded immediate results. On February 14, the team secured their fourth consecutive Nassau County Championship with a 94.9—the highest score recorded on Long Island all season. They parlayed that momentum into history at the NHSCC in Orlando, becoming the first Daler team to reach the DI Small division finals.

The program’s dominance stems from a "chain of excellence" connecting middle school, JV, and varsity levels. This year’s leadership was anchored by ten seniors, including five-year veteran Dakota Mauro, the first athlete in program history to be elevated to varsity as an eighth-grader.

The accolades followed their performance. At the Section VIII Awards, Coach Beatrice was named Coach of the Year, and Jasmin Lawrence received the prestigious Kean Award. Beyond the trophies, the team attributed their success to an unbreakable sisterhood that thrived under pressure.

"You didn’t just take a risk; you embraced the hardest routine in our school’s history," Superintendent Paul Defendini told the athletes. "When the moment was at its peak, you leaned on each other and delivered a masterpiece."

As the parade wound through the streets, the celebration honored more than a title—it celebrated a group of athletes who believed they could fly and finally brought the gold home.

Small Lab Coats, Big Discoveries

The Science Fair at the High School Commons reached a historic turnout on Thursday, March 19. Judges were impressed by the research and confidence shown in the presentations.

In the Beginner’s Category, Bobby Humann of Albany Avenue secured the top spot with his engineering feat, "Which bridge design holds the most weight in pennies?" Under the mentorship of Alexa Umana, Humann’s meticulous testing of structural integrity set a high bar for the younger division.

The Intermediate Category saw a victory for the Northside duo Boden Hopper and Kevin Orofino, who took home first place for their timely health study, "Double Dip v. 5 Second Rule: Which grows more bacteria?" Mentored by Laila Ilanes, their project combined rigorous swabbing techniques with data-driven conclusions that captivated the judges.

Our district is so proud of the hard work and imagination shown by our youngest scientists.

Wellness Fair 2026

Our "Move, Play, Grow" Wellness Fair was a huge success! The Trike-A-Thon was the star while Farmingdale Food Services wowed everyone with healthy treats like butternut squash brownies. We loved seeing so many students dive into the late-night open swim at the Aquatic Center. Thank you to our Wellness Committee, first responders, and families for making health a priority in our community.

The Howitt Players Present Seussical

The Howitt Players burst onto the stage in a riot of color and rhyme, bringing the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss to life. From the Jungle of Nool to Whoville their creativity and music were a gift to our community. Thank you for a performance that reminded us all that a person’s a person, no matter how small!

Playcrafters Present Tuck Everlasting

Adventure, family, and the profound mystery of time took center stage as the Farmingdale Playcrafters brought the whimsical yet moving story of Tuck Everlasting to the community. Based on the beloved novel by Natalie Babbitt and the 2016 Broadway musical, the production explored the bittersweet reality of what it truly means to live.

21st Annual Day of Horn

On February 27, 2026, eight talented Farmingdale horn players participated in the 21st annual Day of Horn. Music teachers Erica Hartmann and Dr. Katie Duke accompanied the group to Longwood High School for the day-long event, which brought together approximately 100 student and professional musicians from across Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Canvas and Coffee

Farmingdale High School seniors recently took over The Cup Coffeehouse in Wantagh for the 3rd Annual AP Art & Design Showcase. Student artists from the classes of Mrs. Gramarossa and Mrs. Jordan-Maisano turned this local favorite into a professional gallery to debut their portfolios. This exhibition gave our creators the chance to experience the professional art world by displaying and selling their original pieces. It was an incredible afternoon of talent, caffeine, and community.

Green and White Night

The roar of the Farmingdale High School gymnasium was deafening on March 3, 2026, as hundreds of fifth graders linked arms for the annual Green & White Night. While the scoreboard eventually declared a winner, the night was defined by the incredible sportsmanship of a unified graduating class.

Top Scholars Join the Legacy

Standing before the gleaming display in the main lobby, Nicholas Zito and Anthony McKee see their names joined with decades of Farmingdale High School history. Above them, large digital screens cycle through a timeline of past scholars, while the custom shelving below houses their own plaques and news clippings. For these two students, the Legacy Gallery is a bridge between the legends who came before them and the bright futures they are about to build.

Kindness Mural

Northside Elementary School recently celebrated one of its Keys to Success during a full-day assembly led by Ms. Wozny. The focus of the day was Kindness, as the entire school community came together to create a collaborative mural.

Each student designed a colorful confetti circle to contribute to the mural, inspired by the message, “Throw Kindness Around Like It’s Confetti.” To build connections across grade levels, students were grouped so that older children could support and encourage their younger peers throughout the activity.

The day served as a joyful and meaningful reminder of the power of kindness and the positive impact students can have on one another. Visitors to Northside are encouraged to stop by the wall to see the school’s beautiful collaborative masterpiece.

A Vision for Future Leaders

Fifty-one of our dedicated DECA members recently competed at the New York DECA State Career Conference in Rochester. We are thrilled to announce that nine students earned top ten honors, with Elise Kelly and Emma Kelly placing 4th in the state! These future leaders will now advance to the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Congratulations to all our competitors for their hard work and professional growth during the 2025-2026 school year.

Charming Calculations

Mrs. Leff’s fourth graders at Woodward Parkway turned a cereal treat into a math lesson! Using cups of Lucky Charms, students counted their total marshmallows to find a denominator. They then sorted the shapes and built fractions based on how many of each they found. It was a sweet way to make fractions a little more magical!

A Diamond Legacy

Farmingdale High School was honored to welcome back Jack Muratore for our baseball season opener. Mr. Muratore was the starting third baseman for our 1951 Nassau County Champions! Now 92 years old, he celebrated the 75th anniversary of his championship season by throwing the first pitch. Our Varsity Baseball players and Coach Frank Tassielli were thrilled to share the field with a true Daler legend.

The Rhythm of Discovery

Farmingdale High School senior Emily Azimzadeh recently led a hands-on music workshop for our Child Lab students. As part of "Music In Our Schools Month," the children moved from observing to playing instruments through fun imitation games. This collaboration highlights the leadership of our older students and the curiosity of our youngest learners.

Delivered with Heart

Clutching a visual checklist, a student from Mrs. Jessica Celenza’s class scans the shelves of the Albany Avenue Elementary School supply closet with focused intent. This is the daily rhythm of "Celenza Prime," a student-led delivery service that turns routine school business into a masterclass in independence. Guided by the motto "Powered by students. Delivered with heart," these young entrepreneurs are redefining what it means to be a teammate.

The Power of Pi

Farmingdale High School's Math Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, celebrated Pi Day with a messy new tradition! Students bought raffle tickets for the chance to aim a whipped cream pie at their favorite administrators. Congratulations to our lucky raffle winners who got to step up and take their best shot. A huge thanks to our brave administrators for being such great sports for a good cause!

New Era, First Win

Farmingdale Girls Flag Football made history on March 18, 2026 by winning the program's first-ever game! The Lady Dalers secured a thrilling 20-14 victory over Wantagh. Izzy Aristy led the ground game with 135 yards and a touchdown. Lily Cartagena added 82 yards and a score, while Kelsey Brosnan dominated on defense with three interceptions. This landmark win marks a powerful beginning for the new program. Let's go, Dalers!

Lending a Voice to Tradition

Student volunteers from REAL Harmony share vibrant picture books detailing the significance of the crescent moon with attentive students at Saltzman East Memorial. The visit, aimed at fostering cultural empathy, used storytelling to celebrate the values of reflection and community inherent in the month of Ramadan.

All Abilities Day

This year, Farmingdale SEPTA did something new by asking Dalers district-wide to show off their unique talents. Students filled out templates and created signs to share what they can do. We’ve gathered those voices into this video to celebrate the growth and harmony of our community. No matter our classroom or achievements, we are all equal and deserve respect.

From the Studio to the Museum

Big news for our artists! Maury Torres-Mendez, Payton Livingston, and Dylan Reyna have been selected for the 2026 Long Island’s Best exhibition at the Heckscher Museum of Art. Only 84 pieces were chosen from over 400 entries across Long Island. We are so proud of your hard work and creativity. Shout out to our amazing art teachers for their guidance. You can view the full story on the district website.

Dalers Take Over States

Our powerhouse crew rewrote the record books at the State Championships at Ithaca College. We set a New School Record of 1:39.40 in the 200 Medley Relay and achieved 7 Personal Bests. For the first time ever, we qualified for finals in every event entered. Sean Kilfeather became the first Daler to compete in 4 events (and 4 finals) at a single State meet!

Congratulations to Devin Agnetti, Ethan Eng, Mark Reo, and Sean Kilfeather for representing our community with #DalerPride
