Welcome to Guidance at Howitt Middle School!
Supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of every Howitt student
Our goal is to provide a comprehensive and developmental guidance counseling program that reflects the goals of the New York State Standards. Based on the student’s grade level and need, each student is assigned to a school counselor who works with the student for all three years and monitors their progress throughout each school year. The counselors are an integral part of the grade-level learning communities, providing academic, social, and emotional support for the students of Howitt Middle School.
Meet Your Counselors
At Howitt Middle School, our counselors are an integral part of each grade-level team. We use a 'looping' model, meaning your child’s counselor stays with their class as they move up from year to year. This allows us to build deep, lasting relationships with students and families, providing consistent support throughout their entire middle school journey.
To ensure all students have the exact resources they need, we also have a dedicated ENL and Special Education Counselor who works across grades 6–8. This specialist provides tailored, ongoing support to our English Language Learners and students receiving special education services, ensuring a consistent and supportive environment for their entire middle school journey.
